Endorsed by the AARP Foundation, Parentis Health Foundation will make a difference in the lives of seniors and youth in communities throughout Orange County with the introduction of AARP Foundation Experience Corps Literacy Program in Orange County after-school sites.
The award-winning, national AARP Foundation Experience Corps program takes an intergenerational approach to building literacy skills in our youth, while enriching the lives of its senior volunteer tutors. This fall, we will launch the first Orange County chapter of AARP Foundation Experience Corps in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley’s three branches located in San Juan Capistrano, Aliso Viejo, and Rancho Santa Margarita. Children kindergarten through third-grade who are at risk of not reading at grade level will receive 1:1 or small group tutoring by highly trained older adult tutors/mentors.
In a single school year, we will…
- Improve the literacy rates of children.
- Enrich the lives of senior volunteers.
- Strengthen schools in the communities we serve.
- Ensure seniors benefit from training and ongoing support that strengthens their natural mentoring abilities, builds confidence, and fosters a sense of purpose.
