Q: What has been the most inspiring experience being a Parentis Angel Volunteer?

A: I received a letter from one of my patient’s daughter.   She gave me a letter around Christmas time, and it said how much she appreciated my time and how happy to have me in their home with her mom.  I am able to Spanish to her and this made her mom very happy. This and many other experiences with my patients touched me because I never realized how much my presence and care meant to the family.

Q: What are some of the things you enjoy doing with the residents?

A: I enjoy hanging out with the elderly and doing crafts with them. I love seeing them enjoy all the colors and doing something with their hands.  Any effort to try to make them happy.  They take advantage of small opportunities. We watch black and white movies and comment on the story line.  We also love watching cooking shows.

Q: What was most memorable?

A:  For Christmas we brought blankets to our hospice patients.  I have never seen Mr. J  so happy . When we brought him a blanket, he said, “This is the softest blanket I have ever felt” and also said, “This is the best Christmas gift I have ever received.”

“Cuddles4Comfort” is our Hospice program that provides blankets to Hospice patients.

TESTIMONIAL:

“My grandmother is 88 years old, and has always been a traveler and very independent.  When the time came to find a caregiver, she was not happy about it at all.  We are so glad we found Parentis Home Care!  They took time with our family as well as my grandmother to really get to know her personality and what her concerns were and also helped ease her anxiety about having a caregiver.  Gloria is now a family member to us.  My grandmother won’t go anywhere without her!  Gloria is so good with her and laid back.  She is right there with her providing her every need.  And if something comes up in the family, she is there to back us up as it’s a family affair to care for our elders.  “
