About parentis foundation

Parentis Foundation is the charitable affiliate of Parentis Health. Our flagship program Experience Corps Orange County is an intergenerational literacy intervention program. Parentis Foundation changes lives by positively and significantly impacting both our older adult volunteers and the future generation of young readers. Experience Corps OC is the Orange County affiliate of AARP Foundation Experience Corps.

MISSION: Parentis Foundation seeks to address a major contributor to poverty – the inability of children to read proficiently by the end of third grade.  Through an intergenerational approach, we provide both older adult volunteer tutor/mentors and children with opportunities to enrich their lives, build self-confidence, and share a sense of purpose through literacy.

PURPOSE: By pairing kindergarten through third-grade children with highly trained volunteer tutors, we improve the literacy skills of children at risk of not reading fluently by fourth grade, while providing meaningful opportunities for older adults who serve as literacy tutor/mentors in after-school youth organizations throughout Orange County.

Generational collaboration

Parentis Foundation is a non-profit educational resource bringing together older adult volunteer tutors and young learners to offer mentorship and educational growth.

Academic success is the key to a better future. However, not all children have access to the resources and educational opportunities that they need. Reading and literacy skills are essential to ensure improved learning and build positive attitudes towards education.

Our experienced and skilled volunteers apply their lifetime of knowledge to help young learners achieve grade level proficiency.

Volunteer tutors age 50+ benefit from ongoing training and support that strengthens their natural mentoring abilities, builds their confidence, and fosters a sense of purpose that helps ensure their success as tutors – and the success of the children as readers.

Volunteers make a world of difference

Early literacy intervention leads to fluency proficiency and improved reading comprehension. By working with our young learners to develop these skills, we open up opportunities to a better education and greater independence throughout life.

our volunteer heros

Who are Parentis Foundation volunteers? They are truly local heroes, women and men devoting up to 5 hours each week for an entire school year to assist struggling students in their community. They come with a wealth of different work and life experiences.

literacy is the gateway to academic success:

Did you know? A child is four times more likely to not graduate high school if they are unable to read proficiently by the 4th grade. By providing children with the guidance to grow and improve their literacy skills, our volunteers open the door to a limitless future.
